April 7 Sea Kayak Sausalito Bay Kayak Cost: $39 Departs: 9:00am Ends: 6:00pm There’s nothing like a kayak for an up-close look of San Francisco Bay. We will be kayaking along the coast of Sausalito, checking out the spectacular ocean side views, while getting in some exercise. Sausalito Bay is filled with seals, eclectic houseboats and the soaring vistas, making Sausalito a world-famous destination. Along the way, your guide will teach you techniques to help you have a fun filled day on the water. Take some time away from the stunning ocean life to look skyward toward views of Mt. May 19 Mt. Tam Day Hike Cost: $15 Departs: 8:00am Returns: 5:00pm Join us as we take you on this very rewarding journey where we will be hiking 6.5 miles through Mountain Tamalpias State Park. From the beach you will venture alongside creeks, under redwood tree canopies, over lush coastal flora, all while capturing spectacular panoramic views. This is a medium difficult trail and we will be gaining 1900ft. Dress for the weather. Trip includes transportation and guide. Pre-register by: 17 May
May 19-20 Whitewater Rafting Overnighter Cost: $119 Age: 12+ Begins: Sat, 7:30am Ends: Sun, 7pm Join Outdoor Recreation as we head towards the Sierra Nevada Mountains into the heart of gold country. We will whitewater raft the South Fork of the American River for two days while enjoying great weather, good people, and good food. These overnight trips are a blast! We will travel 8 miles each day, totaling over 16 miles of exciting class III and IV rapids! We will camp riverside at the halfway mark where we will set up camp and cook a delicious dinner enjoying conversations under the stars. The next morning after breakfast, we hop back on the river and ride through the Gorge in such rapids as Satan’s Cesspool, and Surprise. Trip includes transportation, gear, food, and professional guides. Bring your own tent and sleeping bag! There will be a mandatory pre-trip meeting May 17, 2012 at 5pm at Outdoor Recreation. We will be traveling to one of the local rivers based on water levels (Cache Creek, South Fork of the America, Truckee River) to learn the basics of whitewater kayaking! Rapids will be beginner friendly, but enough to get your blood pumping. We will be camping out Saturday night, and spending two full days on water. August 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 Belay Class Cost: $5 Begins: 12:00pm Ends: 1:00pm Age: 16+ Come learn the art of belaying; the skill needed to hold the climber in the air as they ascend our rock wall. Belay classes are offered every Monday from 12-1pm. This clinic teaches the basics of climbing equipment usage, commands, knots, and safety. August 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 Evening Open Climb Cost: $3/$5 with equipment (Free for Active Duty) Departs: 5:00pm-8:00pm Come check out the new Rock Wall! We now have over 2000 square feet of climbing surface! Outdoor Recreation wants to get you on our wall to experience the sport of rock climbing. We have extended the rock wall hours on Wednesday nights to allow for more people to use the facility. We will have staff on hand for safety purposes but make sure you come to a belay class prior to belay each other! Equipment includes climbing harness, climbing shoes, and belay device. August 5 Intro to Surfing Cost: $49 Departs: 7:30am Returns: 5:00pm Age: 16+ Join Outdoor Adventure Programs as we head to the beach. Our staff will teach you the basics of surfing and provide assistance throughout the day. Don’t let cold weather turn you away; the temperature is the same year round at the coast. Surfing not your thing, no problem, we will have boogie boards on hand for anyone who wants a different type of ride. Location is TBD based on ocean conditions. Already have skill? August 9, 23 Whitewater Kayak Skills Clinic/Open Pool Cost: $20 clinic/$5 open pool Age: 16+ Begins: 5:00pm Ends: 8:00pm This is the perfect course to get you started in the awesome sport of whitewater kayaking. We will teach you all the necessary skills in the controlled environment of the Travis Aquatic Center. Course skills will include wet-exit, turning and propulsion strokes, and more. Don’t let this sport pass you by! If you are have already taken the course or have equivalent knowledge and would like to join us, feel free to use this as an Open Pool kayaking session to work on your own skill set. August 11 Rock Climbing Mt. Saint Helena Cost: $39 Departs: 8:00am Returns: 6:00pm Age: 14+ Interested in rock climbing? Don’t have much experience? Well here is your chance to learn a new sport. August 26 Napa Wine Tasting Cost: $20 Begins: 9:30am Ends: 6:00pm Age: 21+ California’s wine country is one of the premier destinations in the world! With hundreds of wineries, local eateries, and stunning views, you will surely have an amazing time sampling what the different vineyards have to offer. Come join us for a day filled with delicious wines and hidden treasures. We do our best to visit free and/pr discounted wineries, but additional costs may apply per winery. We will stop for lunch. August 18-19 Whitewater Rafting Overnighter Cost: $119 Age: 12+ Begins: Sat, 7:30am Ends: Sun, 7pm Join Outdoor Recreation as we head towards the Sierra Nevada Mountains into the heart of gold country. We will whitewater raft the South Fork of the American River for two days while enjoying great weather, good people, and good food. These overnight trips are a blast! We will travel 8 miles each day, totaling over 16 miles of exciting class III and IV rapids! We will camp riverside at the halfway mark where we will set up camp and cook a delicious dinner enjoying conversations under the stars. The next morning after breakfast, we hop back on the river and ride through the Gorge in such rapids as Satan’s Cesspool, and Surprise. Trip includes transportation, gear, food, and professional guides. Bring your own tent and sleeping bag! There will be a mandatory pre-trip meeting August 16, 2012 at 5pm at Outdoor Recreation. August 18-19 Intro to Whitewater Kayaking Cost: $119 Departs: 7:00am Returns 8:00pm Age: 18+ Curious about whitewater? Is rafting “to easy?” Try whitewater kayaking! We will be traveling to one of the local rivers based on water levels (Cache Creek, South Fork of the America, Truckee River) to learn the basics of whitewater kayaking! Rapids will be beginner friendly, but enough to get your blood pumping. We will be camping out Saturday night, and spending two full days on water. All kayaking equipment included, as well as food, and instruction. August 21 Family Floats Canoe/Kayak Main American River Cost: $15 Weight: 60lbs Departs: 10:00am Returns: 6:00pm Check out our Family Floats Canoe and Kayak, the 3rd Tuesday of each month! This is a great way to spend some time with the family in the outdoors. We will be shuttling to Sacramento where we will put on the water to canoe or kayak for a few hours down the Main American River.
